BALTIMORE, MD – The Elizabethtown wrestling team won the final two bouts at 197 and 285 to pull out a 21-18 non-conference victory over host Johns Hopkins in Goldfarb Gymnasium Friday evening. In the annual Battle of the Blue Jays, it was Etown that built an early lead and then rallied late after Johns Hopkins had won four consecutive bouts to grab an 18-15 lead.

Where the Match Was Won
Trailing 18-15 entering the final two matches, Elizabethtown pulled even at 197 as Tyler Phenegar scored a 9-3 decision over
Will Shiber to make it 18-18 entering the final match at 285. There, sophomore Dylan Waller jumped to a 4-2 lead at the end of the first period against
Hank Behaeghel, increased the lead to 7-3 at the end of two and went on to a 12-6 victory that locked up the win for Etown. Waller used five takedowns, an escape and a point of riding time to fuel his victory.

Hopkins Rallies After Falling Behind
A 3-1
Brent Lorin win for Johns Hopkins at 125 was followed by wins by technical fall, pin and major decision for Etown to make it 15-3 entering the match at 157. There, JHU sophomore
Chris Roybal started the Hopkins comeback as he grabbed a 12-6 win over Gunner Gehr before
Jared Osborne (165) and
Grant Walnoha (174) added decisions of their own to slice the deficit to 15-12.

Joe Paul, wrestling up a weight class from his normal spot at 174, then gave Johns Hopkins an 18-15 lead as scored three takedowns and a four-point near fall before sticking Hunter Beaudet with six seconds remaining in the first period. Phenegar and Waller then decided things with their wins at 197 and 285, respectively.

Paul improved his team-leading victory total to 24 and his record on the year to 24-6 with his win; the victory was also the 60
th of his career and his ninth straight this season. Roybal is now 4-1 since returning to the lineup on January 14 and 10-5 on the year. Lorin improved to 11-3 in his last 14 matches and 19-8 on the year with his match-opening win at 125. The win for Osborne was the 25
th of his career.
