Junior
Rachel Richards scored her seventh goal of the season with 8:31 left in the second overtime to give the Muhlenberg field hockey team a 2-1 win against Washington College in the final game of the regular season.
The Mules (10-7, 4-6) reached double digits in wins for the fifth time in the last six years and will await word on an ECAC Tournament berth.
After honoring their lone senior, goalie
Jordan Segrave, on Senior Night, the Mules controlled play for most of the game, racking up advantages of 22-4 in shots and 15-3 in penalty corners. It was off of one of those corners that Muhlenberg broke through, with sophomore
Kristin Oberg tipping in a delivery from freshman
Alexandra Gann in the second quarter.
The Shorewomen (4-12, 2-8) tied the score off a corner in the third quarter.
Muhlenberg did not allow a shot in the two overtime periods. The winning goal came when sophomore
Sarah Raab set up Richards with a long pass for a one-on-one with the goalie. Richards dribbled through the circle and put a reverse sweep high into the cage for her second career "Golden Goal."
The game was the first this season in which the Mules gave up a goal and still won; their first nine wins were all by shutout.
