Volleyball Falls to Muhlenberg

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus College volleyball team gave Muhlenberg all it could handle in the first set of Wednesday's Centennial Conference matchup, but the visiting Mules pulled out a tight frame and rolled from there to a 3-0 sweep.

The Bears (4-8, 1-2) trailed 16-13 in the opening set, but pulled even on a kill by Caroline Sherman and again at 19-19 courtesy of a kill from Haley Spotts. Muhlenberg, however, took the next two points, and never trailed again on the way to a 25-21 decision.

The Mules ran out to a 9-1 lead before claiming the second set, 25-12. The third set was much tighter, with Ursinus trailing just 6-5 early on, but Muhlenberg took the next three points as part of a 15-4 spurt that effectively put the game to bed.

Megan Ray and Amirah Moody had eight kills apiece for the Mules (9-7, 2-2), who hit .364 in the second set, .522 in the third, and .304 for the match.

Katie Cressman led the Bears with nine kills, with Sherman adding six and Spotts five. Rachel Bernard distributed 23 assists and added eight digs.

Ursinus heads to Baltimore for a tri-match at Johns Hopkins on Saturday, taking on the top-ranked Blue Jays and then Washington and Lee.
