No. 2 Women’s Lacrosse Routs McDaniel

Bullets reach 20 goals for fifth time this spring

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The second-ranked Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team reached 20 goals for the fourth time in its last five games on the way to a 22-4 victory over McDaniel College in a Centennial Conference contest Wednesday afternoon.

Gettysburg (14-1, 7-1 CC) set a program record with its fifth 20-goal outburst of the season at McDaniel (5-10, 1-7 CC). The Bullets notched their best shooting percentage of the season by connecting on 22-of-31 (71 percent) attempts.

A dozen players hit the back of the net for the Orange and Blue. Sophomore Kerry McKeever (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) paced the team with five goals and two assists in addition to tracking down four draw controls. Senior Lauren Cole (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) produced three goals and two assists, while senior Shelby Fragetta (Baltimore, Md./Towson), juniors Ella Orzechowski (Elkridge, Md./Howard) and Courtney Patterson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central), and sophomore Bri Stokes (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) each scored two goals. Junior Liza Barr (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and freshman Caroline Keenaghan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) each recorded one goal and four assists.

Lindsey Farrell finished with two goals and nine draw controls for McDaniel.

Senior goalie Bailey Pilder (Rowayton, Conn./New Canaan) logged two of her five first-half saves in the opening two minutes of play. After being denied on their first possession, the Bullets produced eight goals over the next seven minutes with three coming from McKeever. The sophomore speedster scored an unassisted goal to make it 8-0 at 20:42.

McKeever dished the ball off to Patterson for a goal two minutes later and Cole followed up with a personal 3-0 run to push the margin to double-figures. Another tally by McKeever made it 13-0 with just over 10 minutes left in the first half.

A last-second tally by sophomore Laura Winters (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) pushed the advantage to 16-2 heading into halftime.

The Bullets emptied the bench in the second period and received six goals from five different players. Fragetta was the only player to score twice, converting a feed from Keenaghan to make it 20-3 with 15:54 left and adding the game's final tally with less than three minutes to go.

Ten different players scooped a ground ball for Gettysburg with Orzechowski and sophomore Alex Jarvis (West Hartford, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) each grabbing two. Jarvis also posted three draw controls and a caused turnover. Juniors Abbie Lee (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and Casey Cole (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) each posted three saves while splitting the final 30 minutes in goal for the Bullets.

Gettysburg caps the regular season at home against No. 25 Washington College (11-4, 6-1 CC) this Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m. Washington is coached by Kate Fowler, who was an assistant coach with the Bullets from 2015-18 and helped the team win two national championships (2017, 2018).
