PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - It appeared No. 8-ranked Swarthmore College Baseball and its nation-leading 13.4 runs per game were at it again on Wednesday as a double by senior
Jackson Roberts scored two in the top of the first inning against La Roche College. However, Swarthmore's bats fell asleep over the next five frames, and the Red Hawks took a comfortable 9-2 lead that they'd never give up. The Garnet lost 11-5.
Perhaps the ball wasn't bouncing the right way for a Swarthmore team that reached base via hit 14 times and walked seven times. Even La Roche only had 15 hits and two walks, but the Red Hawks scored six more runs.
Roberts finished the game going 3-for-5 while teammates
Charles Levitt and
Luke Mutz recorded two hits apiece. Junior
Cole Beeker went 1-for-2 with three walks, two RBIs and a run scored.
Swarthmore has two more games on its spring break trip in Florida on Thursday before it returns home. The Garnet play Arcadia University at 11 a.m. and Ohio Wesleyan University at 1:30 p.m.
