HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior Samantha Boardman (Greenwich, Conn./Brooks School) had a hand in both victories for Gettysburg College in a 7-2 setback to regionally-ranked Haverford College in the Centennial Conference opener Saturday afternoon.
 
Playing indoors because of windy conditions, Gettysburg (4-4, 0-1 CC) stole a victory at the top doubles flight as Boardman and sophomore Amanda Vinges (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) took down Emily Shutman and Clara Farrehi 8-4. Haverford (1-4, 1-0 CC), which came in ranked eighth in the Atlantic South Region, won the remaining two doubles bouts 8-4 and 8-1.
 
The Fords won five of the six singles matches in straight-sets, including a second-set tiebreaker win (6-2, 7-6 (7-4)) for Ananya Prakash over junior Ava Vanhelfteren (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury) at No. 5. Boardman halted the sweep by grinding out a 7-5 win in the first set at No. 3 against Claire Johnson and then running away with set two 6-1.
 
Gettysburg travels to McDaniel College Wednesday, March 27, at 3:30 p.m.
