Blair's Offense, Team Defense Lead UMW Women's Lacrosse to 7-5 Win at Washington (MD)

Sophomore Katie Blair scored five goals, and the Eagle defense limited Washington College to five goals, as the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team defeated the Shoremen, 7-5, on Wednesday in Chestertown, Md. The Eagles improve to 4-3 on the season.

Blair opened the scoring for UMW at 13:49 of the fourth on a Kayla Sarazin assist. After the hosts tied the score, Blair added another, unassisted, at 5:23. Washington College scored the next two goals to lead, 3-2, after 15 minutes.

In the second, Blair scored in the opening minute, as each team found the nets just once in the period, and the teams headed to halftime with Washington holding on to a 4-3 advantage.

The Eagles surged ahead with three goals in the third. Erin Steinberg scored on a Sarazin assist at 13:16, and Blair added another at 11:36. Molly Daw scored on a Blair assist with 6:02 left, lifting the Eagle lead to 6-4. Washington drew to within 6-5 at the end of the third, but Blair scored the lone goal of the fourth to give the Eagles a 7-5 win.

Washington College led in shots, 24-20, and in ground balls, 23-20. UMW goalie Reilly Miller made 13 saves in nets for the Eagles, who also saw Miller record four ground balls.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, when they host Messiah College at 1:00 p.m.
