Sophomore
Jessica Oxer converted a penalty stroke with 4:47 remaining for the winning goal as the Muhlenberg field hockey team improved to 4-0 in the Centennial Conference with a 2-1 win at Bryn Mawr.
The Mules (4-5 overall) are one of three teams without a loss in CC play; they'll face one of the others, Johns Hopkins, at home on Saturday.
Muhlenberg got off to a quick start when sophomore
Jordyn Kamis converted a pass from classmate
Rachel Richards off a penalty corner for her first career goal just 4:36 into the game.
Thanks to junior
Jordan Segrave, who made a diving stop of a penalty stroke early in the second half, the score remained 1-0 until the Owls (6-4, 0-4) tied the game with under 10 minutes to play.
Just five minutes later, Oxer
(pictured above) buried her stroke in the upper left corner for her first career goal.
It was the first time the Mules scored a goal in the first five minutes and the winning goal in the last five minutes since a 2013 game against Gettysburg. And it was the first time they pulled off that feat in a 2-1 win since 2002, also against Gettysburg.
It was also the first time this year Muhlenberg scored more than one goal in a game. Close, low-scoring games are the team's norm: Out of the Mules' first nine game, two went to shootouts tied at 1-1, two ended 1-0 and four others finished 2-1.
