Kutcher's Walk-Off Homer Gives Hopkins a 4-3 Victory Over Salisbury

JHU Has Won Seven Straight Games

The Basics

• The Short Story: Tim Kutcher gave the Johns Hopkins baseball team the walk-off victory as his home run in the bottom of the ninth gave JHU a 4-3 victory over visiting Salisbury on Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Chris Festa gave the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the bottom of the first. Festa now has three home runs and 10 RBIs this season, both which lead the team.
• The Sea Gulls tied the game in the second on a Will Gutekunst single to center which scored Jay Perry to tie the game.
• Johns Hopkins took the lead in the bottom of the inning as Austin Sacks doubled to lead off the inning and came around to score on Matthew Ritchie's first collegiate home run which cleared the left field fence to give JHU a 3-1 lead.
• Salisbury responded once again tying the game in the fifth on a Jimmy Monaghan two-run double to left-center.
• The Sea Gulls threatened to take the lead in the seventh as they put runners on the corners with one out but Hejka got Jack Barry to ground into a double play to end the inning. Salisbury had another chance to take the lead in the eighth, but Hejka got another double play to end the frame and keep the game tied at three.
• Hopkins loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth but Andrew Rosso came in and got a groundout to end the inning.
• With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Kutcher stepped up to the plate and took the 1-1 pitch over the left field wall to give the Blue Jays the walk-off win.

What it Means
• The Blue Jays have won seven straight games and head to Florida with an 8-1 record.
• JHU is now 12-14 all-time against Salisbury as Hopkins has won the last three meetings against the Sea Gulls.
• The walk-off home run was the first for Hopkins since March 4, 2018 against Cortland St.

 Kutcher and Kohl each had two hits for the Blue Jays.
• McCracken went 4.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked one. Hejka finished of the game (4.1 innings) to earn his second victory of the season. He allowed just three hits and struck out three.

• Hopkins heads down to Fort Myers, FL for its Spring Break trip. The Blue Jays will open play on Thursday, March 14 with a 3 pm contest against Bethel.
