Dickinson Edges Men’s Soccer 1-0 in CC Tournament

CARLISLE, Pa. –  Dickinson College scored within the first four minutes of the opening half to edge the Gettysburg College men's soccer team 1-0 in the first round of the Centennial Conference (CC) playoffs on Wednesday evening at Miller Memorial to end the season.

Fourth-seeded Dickinson advances to Saturday's conference semifinal game and faces top-seeded Haverford College.

This was the second consecutive season that the Bullets played in the postseason.

Freshman goalkeeper Dillon Konzelmann (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) tied a season-high six saves for the Bullets while Frederick Meagher turned aside seven shots for the Red Devils.

On the second shot attempt in the opening half, the Red Devils Ward Van de Water connected on the lone goal of the game four minutes into the match.

The Bullets had opportunities at the net in the opening half, including a shot by freshman Connor Fife (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) that went just wide right in the 28th minute. Junior Ezekiel Omosanya (Lagos, Nigeria/Northfield Mount Hermon [Mass.]) also had a great look with four minutes left in the half as he drilled a crisp shot to the net, but the Red Devils goalie made an outstanding save.

The Red Devils controlled much of the opening half, but both teams ended up with nine shots each with the hosts holding the 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The second half provided plenty of scoring opportunities for Gettysburg as they pounded at the cage nine times. In the final five minutes, the Bullets kept the play down in the Red Devils area as Fife and Omosanya each took shots with 40:19 and 40:54 on the clock, respectively, but both were saved by Dickinson's goalie.

The Bullets concluded the match outshooting the Red Devils 18-13 and edging Dickinson in corner kicks, 6-5.

Seniors Evan Jansen (Humarock, Mass./Boston College), Peter Kost (Millburn, N.J./Millburn), and Matt Stine (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) finished their careers with an overall record of 40-22-5.
