How It Happened…
  • First Quarter: Senior Julia Soares (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) recorded Gettysburg's only shot on goal in the first half 3:16 into the game. Lankford stopped the attempt and Caputo logged two saves on the other end of the field to keep the scoreless draw.
  • Second Quarter: Seven minutes into the period, Swarthmore attacked the cage and Heide Van Voorhis flung a shot at the cage which was stopped by Caputo. The rebound went right to Quinn Basewitz, but her ensuing shot was knocked away by Nicol for the senior's eighth career defensive save.
  • Third Quarter: After posting two shots in the opening 30 minutes, Gettysburg doubled that number in the third. Fraiman and Soares each tried to hit the back of the cage only to have Lankford step in front for a pair of saves.
  • Fourth Quarter: The offensive floodgates opened in the fourth quarter with the teams combining for 14 shots. Swarthmore jumped on the board 3:48 into the period as Kampel blasted a shot from the top arc on a penalty corner. Just over two minutes later, Beccaria corralled the loose ball and reversed her stick to shoot a goal past Lankford. Fraiman pushed the lead to 2-1 with Beccaria providing the assist in the 53rd minute. Caputo came up with a pair of saves in the 57th minute, but the Garnet pressure eventually found a seam and Twitchell converted a pass from Martin. After two shots by Soares were off target, Swarthmore charged back up the field and quickly put two shots on goal. Van Voorhis was stonewalled by Caputo, but Martin was there for the putback with 47 seconds remaining.
