The Short Story: The 22
nd-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team got a goal in each half to shutout sixth-ranked Montclair State, 2-0, in the Blue Jay Invitational Sunday afternoon. Hopkins won the Blue Jay Invitational after going 2-0 in the tournament.
How it Happened
• Hopkins struck early after a great set up by junior
Julito Quintana. He played a long ball into the Red Hawks' box, that was trapped by junior
Alejandro Maclean. He touched the ball to freshman
Axel Whamond, who played it right back. Maclean took a touch to his right and then blasted a shot from the top of the box inside the right upper 90 to put Hopkins on top in the 22
nd minute.
• Junior
RJ Moore sent a thru ball on the left side to Whamond, he collected the pass and then raced past his defender. Whamond dribbled into the box and then rifled a shot on goal from a tough angle. Michael Mejia got his right hand on the ball, but the ball deflected off his hand and in to put the Blue Jays up 2-0 in the 55
th minute. Â Â
