DeMagistris Breaks Hammer Mark

Two long-distance throws and a long-distance run highlighted the Greyhound Invitational for the Muhlenberg track and field teams.

One of the long throws came from sophomore Dylan DeMagistris, who broke a 37-year-old school record in the hammer with a mark of 155-7. DeMagistris (pictured above) finished second to a Division I thrower, topping the previous school record of 148-4 and his own personal best of 145-0.

The women's hammer mark also fell, as sophomore Faith Fezenko threw 130-6 to add 13 inches to her own school record

The long-distance run was by senior Abby Dalton, who ran the 5000 meters for the first time in her career. It was a spectacular debut for Dalton, who won by more than 48 seconds. Her time of 17:49.94 is the fifth-best in program history.

Dalton came back to finish seventh in the 800, one spot ahead of freshman Erin Jackson. Junior Lily Benanchietti placed eighth in the pole vault, tying her personal best of 9-0¼.

For the men, senior Ben Arehart placed second in the high jump and junior John Panny was fourth in the long jump. Junior Russell Neuwirth had a good day, placing seventh in the 200 and 10th in the 400. Senior Pat Smurla came in eighth in the 1500.
