Women's Soccer Takes First Loss

GLENSIDE, Pa. – A single goal early in the second half was all that separated the Ursinus College women's team from host Arcadia in a 1-0 non-conference setback on Thursday night.

After a quiet first half featuring just four combined shots, the intensity ratcheted up after the break and ultimately resulted in a breakthrough for the Knights (2-1), who took the lead on Kira Borchard's fourth goal of the season.

Carlie Shiller put a shot on target in the 75th minute and Taylor Beaumont forced a last-minute stop by the Arcadia keeper, but the Bears were unable to dent the scoreboard in suffering their first loss of the young season.

Mandy Carideo finished with three saves for Ursinus, while Alex Chalmers joined Beaumont and Shiller in registering an attempt on frame.

Arcadia, which has made four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, finished with an 11-6 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bears stay on the road to face Montclair State on Saturday.
