Johns Hopkins Falls to Host Navy, 5-2

The Basics

• The Short Story: Host Navy beat the Johns Hopkins women's tennis team, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon in the Blue Jays' season opener.
 
How it Happened
• The Mids grabbed the doubles point with wins at first and second doubles. Kacey Moore and Brooke Bogdanovich opened the match with a 6-1 win at third over senior Katie Gauch and freshman Evelyn Chang. Katreina Corpuz and Meghana Komarraju then secured the first point of the match with a 6-1 win over sophomore Anjie Kashyap and junior Sophia Strickland at first.
• Sophomore Dhanya Asokumar and senior Kimberly Zou prevented the doubles sweep as they beat Tina Li and Danika Kahatapitiya, 6-2, at second.
• Aimee Dervishian grabbed the first singles point when she beat Strickland 6-0, 6-3 at second. Catalina Rico followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Asokumar at third to make it a 3-0 match.
• Chang picked up a point for Hopkins when she beat Li 6-3, 6-3 at fifth. Bogdanovich then clinched the win for Navy with a 6-1, 7-6 (3) win over Gauch at sixth.
• Zou then earned a three-set win over Kahatapitiya 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 at fourth to cut the Mids' lead to 4-2. Miranda Deng closed out the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6- win at first over Kashyap.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins falls to 0-2 against Navy since the series began last February.  
 
Up Next
• Hopkins returns to action on Friday, Mach 15 as the Blue Jays take on 37th-ranked Bates at Mary Washington. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start.
