The Muhlenberg men's soccer team had the better of play for most of the second half against the first-place team in the Centennial Conference but fell at Haverford, 2-1.
The Fords (11-4, 7-1), who are ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the NCAA, scored just 76 seconds into the game and doubled their lead on a penalty kick early in the second half.
The Mules (6-8-2, 2-5-1) closed to within a goal with 22:54 remaining after junior
Pete Luther was taken down from behind in the box while running on to a good cross from freshman
Josh Bordwick. Senior
Kevin Irving (pictured above) converted the penalty kick for his eighth career goal.
Muhlenberg continued to apply pressure and took six more shots but could not find the back of the net. The Mules outshot the Fords 10-4 in the second half and 14-10 for the game.
The Mules have played six of the 10 teams in the NCAA regional rankings, tying one and losing to three others by one goal.
