The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead and went on to defeat visiting Washington College, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. Â
Â
How it Happened
• Johns Hopkins wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as the Blue Jays cashed in on some beautiful tic-tac-toe passing. Junior
Connor Jacobs dribbled in towards the Shoremen's box and then played the ball to sophomore
Pablo Martinez. He one-touched a pass to an on-running
Griffin Cyphers, who blasted a shot inside the right post in the seventh minute.
• The Blue Jays pushed their lead to two in the 31
st minute as this time Martinez was on the receiving end of a Cyphers' pass. Cyphers stole the ball from a Washington College defender, carried the ball about 20 yards and then passed to a trailing Martinez. He took one touch and then slotted the ball under Shoremen goalie Josh Samuels from about 10 yards out.
• Washington College got on the board and cut the deficit in half off a throw-in in the 43
rd minute. Brian Graham sent the throw-in from the left sideline deep in to the Blue Jay box and Del Jenkins touched it in at the far post.
