Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 31 Swarthmore College Men's Tennis dropped the highly anticipated nationally-ranked match against No. 23 Johns Hopkins University at home on Saturday, falling to the visiting Blue Jays 7-2.
Swarthmore earned a win in second doubles, but played first and third doubles extremely close.
Thibault Vernier and
John Lathrop battled in top doubles but fell 8-6.
Simon Vernier and
Evan Han also were clipped in third doubles 8-6. The doubles match the Garnet won, was won pretty handily as
Jiung Jung and
Noah Criss claimed an 8-2 victory.
Jung fell in top singles 6-4, 6-2. In second singles, Lathrop forced three sets after winning the first set 6-2, but then dropped the next set 6-0 and the last set 7-5.
Thibault Vernier also pushed three sets after winning the first set of third singles 6-3. He slipped 6-1, 6-3 in the next two sets.
The pattern continued in fourth singles as
Simon Vernier went ahead 6-4, but found himself on the wrong end of 7-5, 6-2 results in the second and third sets.
Evan Han fell 6-4, 6-3 in sixth singles. Swarthmore's singles win came in fifth singles as
Noah Criss won 2-6, 7-5, 3-0 (walkover).
The Garnet are back in action on Sunday in Virginia against the University of Mary Washington.
