Women’s Basketball’s Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team fell to Washington College, 70-63, Wednesday on the road. After trailing by double-digits for the majority of the second half, the Garnet staged a late comeback and pulled within four points of the Shorewomen. 

Dana Bandurick led the way offensively with a game-high 19 points, while shooting 6-of-10 from the field. Alyssa Hayashi also put together a strong performance with 17 points to go along with four rebounds and a team-high three steals. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore and Washington College played a tightly-contested opening quarter with neither team taking a lead larger than four points. The Garnet took their largest lead of the stanza after back-to-back buckets from Hayashi and Erin Cronin put them ahead by three points, 12-9. However, the Shorewomen ended the quarter with four-unanswered points to take a one-point lead, 13-12. 

- Midway through the second, Bandurick retook the lead for Swarthmore with a made jumper, 21-19. Washington College then answered with a 17-7 run to end the opening half with a 36-28 advantage. 

- Hayashi connected from long range, while Bandurick added four-unanswered points to put together a 7-0 run with 2:04 left in the third quarter. However, Washington College brought its lead back to double digits heading into the final stanza, 52-40.

- Washington College maintained a double-digit advantage for the majority of the fourth quarter until Colleen Anderson shrunk the Garnet deficit to eight points with a three-pointer at the 2:06 mark. Hayashi then drilled her third three-pointer of the game to pull within four points with 45-seconds left.
