HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College baseball team (14-12, 5-2 CC) dropped a 9-0 decision to Swarthmore (12-15, 5-2 CC) on Tuesday afternoon at Kannerstein Field, halting a five-game win streak in Centennial Conference play.

Reigning Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week Mike Rabayda looked strong in his five innings, as he struck out nine and allowed just four hits. Unfortunately, Swarthmore tagged the sophomore for earned runs in the first and third. In the first, Austin Burgess tripled into right center ahead of Michael Sepe's single to left to plate the opening run. Sepe again tallied an RBI in the third, plating Luke Muntz with his towering double into left.

Haverford kept with the Garnet as Rabayda finished strong with two scoreless innings to finish his stint. Haverford had its chances, putting runners into scoring position in the third and fifth. The Fords finished with 12 left on base and were able to coax just one walk from the Swarthmore hurlers.

A five-run rally for the visitors in the seventh broke things open as Burgess drilled a two-RBI double and Sepe followed with a two-run homer to left, giving Swarthmore a 7-0 advantage in that frame. The visitors tacked on two more on a homer from Paul Cooke in the eighth to reflect the 9-0 final score.

Haverford outhit the Garnet 10-8, with reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week Zach Becker recording three hits and first years Harry Genth and Anthony Runfola each adding a pair. Sepe had a fantastic game on the visiting side, going 3-3 with four RBI and a run scored. Burgess added two RBI in his four trips to the plate.

Wyatt Mattison twirled a perfect ninth inning in relief for Haverford, striking out two. Swarthmore used four pitchers in the win, with Zach Camp seeing the bulk of the innings with seven strikeouts in his four innings on the hill.

Haverford now returns to action on Friday, completing the home-and-home series with the Garnet at Clothier Field in Swarthmore. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
