BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Haverford College volleyball team (12-2, 2-0 CC) swept past Bryn Mawr (5-7, 0-2 CC) on Wednesday night, prevailing by set scores of 25-12, 25-10, and 25-22. Dina Kosyagin was the only Haverford player in double-digit kills, notching a match-best 12 while hitting a game-best .440. The Fords earned 12 service aces on the night, with four from Juliet Young and three from Isabel Schwam. A total of 15 players saw the court, with 11 different Haverford players registering a dig in a true team effort.
The first set saw the Fords cruise out to an early 16-10 lead, as strong outside play from Kendall Otridge and a blocking effort again anchored by Taylor Jones put separation between Haverford and the Owls in the first set. Bryn Mawr called for timeout down 20-11, but the stoppage did not slow down the Haverford offense as Téa Kuzbari notched consecutive service aces ahead of a pair from Elena Filograna to put things away.
The second set included a strong 6-0 run out the gates with Young at the service line. Young notched consecutive service aces in that run, and Haverford eventually saw its lead balloon to 11-4 with Kosyagin and Jadyn Elliott teaming up for a block. A strong closeout stretch with Young at the service line yet again allowed the Fords to put things well out of reach, going up 23-8 with back-to-back kills from Taylor Jones sealing the set at 25-10.
Bryn Mawr looked poised to steal one back in the third set, battling to a 15-11 lead and prompting a Haverford timeout. The Fords regrouped to pull back to within two with a block from Abby Holland and Elliott, but Bryn Mawr then opened up a five point lead at 17-12. Strong outside play from Otridge and Kosyagin kept Haverford in the set, rallying to tie things at 22-22. The Fords got on the cusp of victory with a block from Holland and Taylor Jones, setting up one final kill from Otridge to give the Fords set point before a Bryn Mawr error handed the visitors a sweep.
Hunsberger collected 23 assists to pace Haverford, while Jones, Elliott, and Holland each added two blocks on the evening. Haverford has now won 26 consecutive contests with the Owls, including every meeting in the rally scoring era.
Volleyball now returns to action on Saturday at home inside Gooding '84 Arena, doing battle with the nation's top-ranked team, Johns Hopkins, at noon before facing off with Arcadia at 4 p.m. in the final home tri-match of the 2021 season.
