Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Suppressed By No. 4 Diplomats

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer held No. 4 Franklin & Marshall College to just four shots on goal on Saturday, but the Garnet managed one shot on goal themselves in a 1-0 Garnet Weekend setback.

Swarthmore had a chance on goal early in the eighth minute when Omri Gal threaded the defense with a pass for Bless Tumushabe to pick up in the box. Tumushabe collected it on the run and fired off a shot near post that was denied by F&M's goalkeeper.

While that was Swarthmore's only shot on goal, the Garnet registered six total attempts against F&M's stingy defense. Ben Lau had an attempt in the ninth minute after sneaking behind F&M's backline but his shot from the left side scooted past the right post and out.

Bradley had a scoring opportunity in the 76th minute, but his shot went wide as well.

The Diplomats goal came in the 27th minute by reserve Alex Martinez in his second minute of action. Teammate Alex Lalovic worked his way up the left side and slid a pass to Martinez right on the doorstep for the game-winner.

Freshman Max Kral took his first loss of the season but recorded three saves in the process, including making a leaping tip that stopped what would have been a highlight reel goal in the 50th minute.

Swarthmore, now 7-2-2 and 1-2-1 in Centennial Conference action looks to rebound with a non-conference home game against Cairn University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Prior to Saturday's game, Swarthmore honored the members of the 1974 men's soccer team who were inducted into the Garnet Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend. The 1974 squad was the first Swarthmore team to compete for an NCAA Championship.
