Women's Swimming Opens Season With CC Quad Meet

RESULTS
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team opened their 2022-23 season at the Centennial Conference quad meet featuring Swarthmore, McDaniel, and Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bears defeated McDaniel 166-59 but fell to Swarthmore (194-65) and Franklin & Marshall (141-116) to open their season. Melissa Leonard led the way for Ursinus earning first-place finishes in the 200 (1:56.59) & 500 (5:11.18) freestyle events while collecting a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (54.17). Senior Abigail Ferguson shined throughout the afternoon earning three top-five finishes, while classmate Charlotte Driver collected three top-ten times. Driver touched the wall at 2:20.46 in the 200 fly for a third-place finish and collected an eighth-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 1:04.80. In the 200 IM, Ferguson finished second claiming a time of 2:15.92 and earned fifth place finishes in the 100 (1:09.76) and 200 (2:32.67) breaststroke.
 
Junior Alexandra Zelinske impressed in her first outing with the Bears collecting a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.31) and a fourth-place finish in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.95. Teammate Molly Stevens earned an eighth-place finish in the 100 back (1:04.53) and finished seventh in the 100 fly with a time of 1:04.13.
 
Sophomore Katie Barlow picked up top-five finishes in the 1000 free (3rd, 11:14.97) and 200 back (5th, 2:14.96). Classmate Emily Carkhuff finished just behind in the 1000 free with a fifth-place finish touching the wall at 11:25.07, while picking up a ninth-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:35.79.
 
First-year Sara Bozzomo swam well, finishing fifth in the 100 free with a time of 55.83, while earning a seventh-place finish in the 50 free (25.63). Junior Morgan Grabowski finished 10th in the 50 free (27.76) and 11th in the 200 breast (3:04.80).
 
The Bears earned sliver in the 400-freestyle relay as the quartet of Bozzomo, Zelinske, Leonard, and Barlow touched the wall at 3:42.53.  
 
The Bears will return to action on Saturday as they travel to York College for a non-conference meet starting at 1pm.
