UMW Baseball Falls to Washington College on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 20-8 decision to Washington College (MD) on Sunday afternoon at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles slip to 2-3 on the season.

After a scoreless first, the Shoremen scored one in the second and two in th third, before the Eagles answered in the bottom of the third. Owen Reilly and Xavier Herring singled to open the inning, and Jacob Christenbury followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Bobby Ayscue provided an RBI groundout to plate Reilly.

After Washington scored two in the fourth, the Eagles roared ahead with a five-run fifth. Ayscue and Ty Lowe provided bases-loaded RBI singles, and Noah Roots added an RBI groundout. Three straight hit batters gave the Eagles two more runs.

The Shoremen scored five in the sixth, three in the seventh, and seven in the ninth. UMW scored two in the ninth on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Philip Woodard.

Reilly had two hits to lead the Eagle offense, while Ayscue added a hit and two RBI. Alex Kyte took the loss for the Eagles in relief.

UMW will be back ina ction on Tuesday, when they face Neumann College in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at 6:00 p.m.
