Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Wins Big at Swarthmore

Freshman James Dalimonte scored four goals and junior Garrett Pope made 14 saves to lead the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team to a 14-5 win at Swarthmore.

Following two straight one-goal losses, the Mules (9-3, 2-2) evened their Centennial Conference record by posting their largest margin of victory ever in a CC road game. The previous record was six goals in a 9-3 win at Ursinus in 2010.

Muhlenberg's biggest CC win margin at any site is 10 goals at home vs. Swarthmore in 2008. The Mules also won CC home contests by nine goals in 2013 (vs. Swarthmore) and last year (vs. McDaniel).

Sophomore Ethan Grossman, the newly crowned all-time program scoring leader, added to his school record with five points on two goals and three assists. Sophomore Colin Adams netted a career-high four points on two goals and two assists.

The Garnet (7-4, 0-4), which received votes in the Division III poll earlier this season, scored the first goal of the game, but Dalimonte found the net twice in a span of 26 seconds to give the Mules the lead.

After Swarthmore knotted the score, Grossman assisted sophomore PJ Lombara and junior Jake Whittingslow for goals in the final 70 seconds of the first quarter, sending Muhlenberg into the break with a 4-2 advantage.

Pope and the defense ensured that the lead would stand up, holding the Garnet to two goals over the next 35 minutes while the Mules scored six times to pull away.

The defense was at its best when Muhlenberg was two men down late in the first half, killing off the penalties while allowing only one shot on goal.

Freshman Maxwell Seeber led the poles with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Freshman Kyle Lando picked up three ground balls, as did sophomore defensive middie Alexander Giaquinto.

Adams (pictured above) assisted twice in the Mules' fourth-quarter stretch of three goals in 61 seconds, including one on which he passed the ball over the cage to sophomore Nate Emrick, who finished for his first goal of the season.
