Women's Soccer Drops Hard-Fought Contest to WAC

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus College women's soccer team took a lead into halftime, but a pair of quick-fire goals from visiting Washington College left the Bears a bitter 2-1 Centennial Conference defeat on Saturday night.

Alex Chalmers opened the scoring in the 11th minute for the Bears (2-6-1, 0-3), collecting the ball and shaking off a defender to free herself for a right-footed shot that she buried to the lower left of the net for her second goal in as many games.

Ursinus kept the upper hand until the opening minutes of the second half, when a foul in the box gave the Shorewomen (5-3-2, 1-1-2) a penalty kick that Keelie Verbeek converted for a 1-1 tie just 2:36 after the break. Less than seven minutes later, Reagan Longridge chipped a long-range shot over the head of Bears goalie Mandy Carideo for the eventual game-winning goal.

The Bears pushed hard down the stretch but were unable to find a late equalizer.

Carideo had three saves for Ursinus, which was outshot 9-5 for the night.

The Bears break from conference play to host Moravian on Wednesday.
