COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The No. 28 Haverford College men's tennis team (8-5, 3-1 CC) recorded a 9-0 sweep of host Ursinus (7-5, 2-3 CC) on Tuesday evening at Perkiomen Valley High School. Competing in a rare night match, the Fords set the tone with strong doubles play and carried that momentum into the latter stages of the match, cruising through singles to down the Bears at each spot in singles play.

In spirited doubles competition, the grouping of Jason Edmonds and Justin Minerva gave Haverford its first point with an 8-4 triumph over Noah Mandel and Ethan Yu. The top-flight pairing of George Jiang and Stefan Johnson then got past Lars Jesperen and Will Oberholtzer by an 8-5 final before Patrick Kley and Adam Chow teamed up for an 8-4 triumph over Rob Ritchie and Darby Rogers.

With the 3-0 lead in hand after doubles, the Fords were then in a quick sprint to clinch the match under the lights. At number six singles, Minvera stepped into the lineup and looked extremely confident in his 6-0, 6-1 sweep of Yu. The next match to finish was James McKenzie at number four, as he clinched the match with a straightforward dispatching of Rogers (6-3, 6-2).

Chow later grabbed a 6-3, 6-4 win over Richie at No. 3, and Kirin Eicher then got the better of Mandel (6-4, 6-2) at number five. Jiang grabbed duplicate 6-4, 6-4 wins over Jesperen at the top flight and Danny Loder outlasted Oberholtzer by 7-5, 7-5 finals at the second flight to end the day.

Haverford improves to 77-0 overall against Ursinus, and 32-0 in Collegeville.

Men's tennis will continue the Centennial Conference schedule on the road Saturday against Dickinson. That match in Carlisle is slated for 1 p.m.
