Men’s Soccer Defeated in Home Finale against Catholic

GETTYSBURG, Pa. –  The Gettysburg College men's soccer team lost 1-0 against non-conference opponent Catholic University in its regular season home finale on Tuesday night at Clark Field.

The Bullets have been defeated in their last four matches, three of which have been decided by one-goal.

Gettysburg's defense was working extremely hard during the first several minutes of the opening half as freshman Dillon Konzelmann (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) kept the hosts off the board with two saves on a shot by Brian Galfond and Ben Alexander at the nine and 14-minute markers, respectively. However, Catholic broke through and scored 23 minutes later as Aaron Boyle had a breakaway shot that he punched into the lower left corner of the net at 37:11.

Four minutes later, the Bullets were looking to collect a goal of their own as senior Matt Stine (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) shot at the cage, but the Cardinals goalie saved it. Catholic headed into intermission with the slight 6-5 shot advantage with both teams having one corner kick each.

The Bullets managed to outshoot the visitors 5-4 in the second half but continued to struggle offensively as opportunities were missed. Gettysburg took two shots on goal in the final five minutes, a long strike from junior Ezekiel Omosanya (Lagos, Nigeria/Northfield Mount Hermon [Mass.]) and a shot from sophomore Sam Lerman (Wayzata, Minn./Field School) but both were stopped by the Cardinals goalkeeper Jack Long who finished the night with seven saves.

Both teams tallied 10 shots, while the Cardinals held the 4-1 edge on corner kicks.

The Bullets play their final regular season match at Ursinus College in a crucial Centennial Conference game on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
