• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins baseball team scored six runs in the second and five runs in the fourth as the Blue Jays defeated Catholic by a score of 12-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
How it Happened
• Catholic struck first in the opening inning on an RBI single to right field by Bailey Lewis which plated Connor Sullivan who led off the inning with a single. With no outs and runners on first and second,
Jack Bunting retired the next three batters, two via the strikeout, to end the inning with no further damage.
• The Blue Jays responded in the top of the second with six runs to take a 6-1 lead.
Chris DeGiacomo hit a double to the wall in right and came around to score the tying run on a double down the left field line by
Frank Clara. Tim Kutcher gave the Blue Jays the lead on a single to center, and back-to-back RBIs from
Bradley Parsons and
Mike Eberle made it a 4-1 game.
Nate Davis doubled home two more Blue Jays to make the score 6-1.
• The Cardinals put runners on second and third in the bottom of the third inning but Bunting struck out the next two Catholic batters to get out of the inning and keep it a five-run game.
• Johns Hopkins added five more runs in the fourth as the Blue Jays batted around for the second time in the game.
Adam Kohl, DeGiacomo and
Matthew Ritchie each knocked in a run while
AJ King knocked in two with a single to right as Hopkins took an 11-1 lead.
• The Cardinals added a run in the sixth on a Cid Porter double to left that made it an 11-2 ball game.
• In the ninth, DeGiacomo made it 12-2 with his third home run of the season as he took the Colin Kehoe pitch over the right-field wall.
• The Blue Jay bullpen finished out the final four innings as
Johan Offman,
John Donohue,
Jaspar Carmichael and
Josh Hejka allowed just one unearned run and gave up just one hit while striking out six and allowing zero walks as Hopkins won the game by a score of 12-2.

What it Means
• Hopkins is now 33-31-1 against the Cardinals as JHU has won the last five meetings. The Blue Jays have scored in double-digits in four of those five victories as they have outscored Catholic 54-12 in the wins.
• This is the second time this season Johns Hopkins has scored at least 10 runs in back-to-back games.
• This was the first true road game for Johns Hopkins this season. The Blue Jays opened the season with nine home games before heading to Florida for their spring break trip.
