DANVILLE, Va. - A pin by McDaniel College wrestling freshman
Thomas Monn at 149 pounds secured a 28-22 road victory over Averett Saturday at the Grant Center.
Monn was one of two Green Terror (1-0) to earn a win by fall, joining junior
Jaedyn Harris who pinned the Cougars' William Baldwin in 4:30 at 197 pounds to give the visitors a 19-0 lead after four matches.
Senior
Alex LaVeck started things off with a tech fall at 165 pounds before senior
Michael Bromley followed that up with a tech fall of his own at 174. Senior
Dalton Pearl then earned a 9-4 decision at 184 pounds to give McDaniel a 13-0 advantage.
Averett (0-1) picked up its first win with a major decision at heavyweight before junior
Alex DuFour earned a one-point decision over Daniel Porter at 125 pounds to push the Green Terror lead back to 18 points.
The Cougars posted back-to-back victories by pin at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively, to cut their deficit to six, 22-16. With an opportunity to tie the match with a pin at 149 pounds, Monn recorded the first fall of his career to improve to 4-0 this season and secure the win for McDaniel.
The Green Terror continue their stay in Danville on Sunday as they will participate in the Cougar Open with eight mats and 20 other schools. Competition begins at 9 a.m.
