Baseball Drops First Two Games In Myrtle Beach

On Saturday the Wells College Baseball team kicked off their trip to Myrtle Beach.

Their first game was against McDaniel College from the Centennial Conference. McDaniel was 6-4 on the season before this matchup while the Express was coming off a win against Cazenovia College that improved their record to 3-4.

Connor Carr Matthews started for the Express and ran into a little trouble in the first inning. As he settled in, a few walks and a passed ball gave McDaniel an early lead of 1-0 in the first. In the second inning, McDaniel pushed across 7 runs on 3 hits to give them an 8-0 lead that they never looked back from. Zack Cronk came in for 3 innings of relief giving up 3 runs while striking out 4 batters. Max Odum lead things on the offensive side going 2-3 for the Express who eventually fell by a score of 12-1.

In the second game against New England College, Luke Eitner got the start for the Express. Eitner too took a little while to settle in throwing a few wild pitches in the first inning. New England was able to secure a 2-0 lead heading into the second inning. Eitner finished the day giving up 9 runs on 8 hits. The Express offense couldn't get a run across until the 8th inning. A double from Justin Colindres cleared the bases and put 3 runs on the board for the Express. In the 9th, the Express would get 2 more runs after Josh Pita and Joe Horne were hit by pitches both with the bases loaded. Wells College lost this game by a score of 15-5.
