LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore
Clay Chadwick (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) broke an 18-18 tie with a 3-2 overtime victory at 285 pounds to lead the Washington and Lee wrestling team to a 21-18 victory over
Ferrum on Wednesday evening at the Student Activities Pavilion.
The Panthers (5-3) evened the match at 18-18 with a major decision victory at 197 pounds, setting up a final bout to decide the outcome of the match. Neither wrestler could gain an advantage through regulation, but Chadwick scored a reversal over senior Carlos
Leyva in overtime to secure a 3-2 win at 285 pounds and clinch the Generals' second straight victory over
Ferrum.
The Panthers posted an early 10-5 lead, but back-to-back technical fall victories by sophomore
Ryan Luth (Milford, Conn. / Joseph A.
Foran) at 157 pounds and junior Nick
Konovalchik (North Andover, Mass. / Brooks School) at 165 pounds gave the Generals (9-4) a 15-10 lead that they would hold until
Ferrum evened things up heading into the deciding match at 285 pounds.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Gettysburg to take on the host Bullets,
21st-ranked Muhlenberg and McDaniel. Action begins at 12:00 pm.
