Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

King Headbutts Rams In Final Minute

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—With just 46 seconds remaining in Monday afternoon's game with Farmingdale State, Lizzie King headed in the game-winning goal for Swarthmore College Women's Soccer, helping the Garnet to their third consecutive 1-0 win.

The Garnet, now 9-3 overall, wrap up non-conference action with an out-of-league record of 6-1.

Monday's contest had echoes of last season's matchup with the Farmingdale Rams. In the 2018 bout, Swarthmore had out-shot the Rams on the road 22-5 but lost 1-0 after surrendering a goal in the 88th minute. Swarthmore avoided repeating that setback on Monday thanks to King's 90th-minute tally. The Garnet pressured the Rams constantly and recorded 20 attempts to Farmingdale's six. Farmingdale's physical play was on display as the Rams registered a whopping 22 fouls to Swarthmore's eight.

Chantal Reyes earned another shutout for Swarthmore, her third in as many games and fifth this season. As a team, Swarthmore has seven shutouts on the year. Reyes recorded four saves, giving her 33 on the year and a save percentage of 94.3 percentage. Her save percentage and goals against average of 0.24 both lead the Centennial Conference.

In the 80th minute, Swarthmore had a chance to go ahead after drawing a penalty kick. However, the attempt by Seneca Kinn-Gurzo went high. The Garnet finally capitalized in the final minute when Kinn-Gurzo made a long throw-in from the left sideline. Her re-entry sailed into the box, skipped high and towards the left post. King, sandwiched between two defenders, still managed to rise up and head the bounding ball into the goal. Swarthmore kept Farmingdale away from goal in the final 46 seconds to secure the win.

Swarthmore has five conference games to close out the season. The home stretch begins at Clothier Field Stadium on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Bryn Mawr.
