Baseball Slugs Past Delaware Valley for 5th Straight Win

MYRTLE BEACH, SC. - The Ursinus College baseball team collected their 5th consecutive victory on Tuesday morning after defeating Delaware Valley by a score of 12-2. The Bears racked up 13 hits in the contest while freshman Mike Scheller and junior David Kratz held the Rams to just four hits on the day. 

Scheller, making his first career start, went 3.2 innings allowing three hits, two runs, and struck out three Rams. Kratz earned the victory on the mound, throwing 5.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. Sophomore centerfielder Dylan Crammer led the way at the plate collecting four hits and 3 RBIs, while junior Nick Diaz went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs as well.  

In the top of the first inning, after reaching first via a fielder's choice, Solomon Griffith stole second and later scored after Tom Snipes doubled to left center. Scheller retired the Rams in order in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on first and second with one out, Crammer singled to center, and Diaz raced around third to score. Jakob Cantor made the score 4-0 Ursinus after a double to right center scored both Crammer and Max Gadsden.  

Delaware Valley cut the deficit to two after scoring two runs in the 4th. Kratz came into the game with two runners on and two outs got out of the jam after a flyout to rightfield. The Bears responded right back with two runs in the 5th to make the score 6-2. With two outs, Diaz came through with a double to right center, scoring both Matteo Falcone and Snipes. Ursinus added four insurance runs in the 7th and led 10-2 with two innings to play. Diaz singled to left center allowing Jared Minnichbach to cross the plate. Gadsden followed with a walk and Crammer brought both runners home after a double down the left field line. Kratz retired the final seven batters of the game in order and earned his first win of the season.  

The Bears will return to action Wednesday for a 3pm start against Rochester.
