LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team eclipsed the program record for wins in a season by claiming all three of its matches in a Centennial Conference quad hosted by McDaniel on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Generals defeated the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (29-14), Johns Hopkins (35-10) and Ursinus (34-12) to improve to 16-5 overall and 5-1 in conference matches.  The prior record for wins in a season was set 46 years ago when the 1972-73 team finished 13-5 overall.
 
Four different Generals finished the day with a perfect 3-0 mark.  Sophomore 133-pounder Charlie Cunningham (Pequannock, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep) had two wins by forfeit and an 11-3 major decision victory over Raymond Calderio of Ursinus.
 
Junior 141-pounder Bryce Crew (St. Mary's, Ga. / Camden County) notched wins by fall over the Merchant Marine Academy (1:42) and Ursinus (0:31), and he added a forfeit win against Hopkins.  Luth had a win by decision against Ursinus, a 16-1 tech fall victory over his JHU opponent and a 12-0 major decision against USMMA. 
 
Senior 184-pounder Rexx Hallyburton (Bishop, Ga. / Oconee County) finished the conference regular-season with a perfect 6-0 record after notching a pair of wins by decision and a forfeit win against Ursinus.  Among his wins by decision was a 3-1 overtime victory over USMMA's Joshua Glantzmann, who is currently ranked sixth in Division III.
 
Washington and Lee returns to action next Saturday when it participates in the Centennial Conference Championship hosted by Muhlenberg College.  Action begins at 10:00 am.
