The Muhlenberg women's soccer team scored twice in the second half to open its Centennial Conference season with a 2-0 shutout of Franklin & Marshall.
Junior
Danni Steigerwald broke a scoreless deadlock in the fourth minute of the second half when she sent a long ball into a clutter of players from both sides in the box. The Diplomat goalie lost sight of the ball among the commotion in front of her, and the ball rolled in for Steigerwald's fifth career goal.
The score remained 1-0 until the final few minutes. With F&M (0-4-1, 0-1) pressing up for an equalizer, junior
Karolyn Kawa found freshman
Kayleigh Durning behind the defense just past the center line. Durning (pictured above, second from left) dribbled in and beat the goalie 1-on-1.
Junior
Libby Juliano needed to make only one save in recording her 10th career shutout.
The Mules (3-2-1, 1-0) hold a 20-4-4 all-time lead against the Diplomats and have not allowed a goal to them the last four years.
