Swarthmore Reaches 20 Wins For First Time Since 2012

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Swarthmore College Softball picked up its 20th win of the season in a 5-3 game against Washington College that lasted 10 innings.

The first nine innings happened on Tuesday, but the game was suspended until Wednesday because of darkness.

Junior Gabriella Natoli was the hero in this one as she drove in junior Kalli Segel and sophomore Mika Maenaga on a single in the top of the 10th.

The Garnet (20-11, 8-5) move into third place in the Centennial Conference, and they've reached 20 wins for the first time since 2012. That year the team finished 20-20.

Freshman Gwen Glatz pitched 7.2 scoreless innings in relief and allowed just three hits. She had two strikeouts and one walk. She now has a 7-2 record this season.

Swarthmore, down 3-0 after the third inning, scored its first runs in the fourth on a single by Maenaga and a sacrifice fly by Natoli.

Segel tied the game in the sixth with a double that scored Maenaga.

To recap, Maenaga went 2-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Natoli went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Senior Marit Vike also went 2-for-4, and senior Elizabeth Curcio went 2-for-5.

Swarthmore's next two games are against Dickinson at Clothier Field on Saturday. They start at 1 p.m. The Garnet are currently in playoff position and hoping to make the Centennial tournament for the first time since 2010.
