Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Dillon Makes 20 Saves In Battle With No. 18 Ducks

HOBOKEN, N.J.—Four different players scored in the 2020 season opening match for Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse on Saturday afternoon. Swarthmore challenged the No. 18 Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks, but fell 9-4 in a defensive affair.

The Garnet conceded four consecutive goals to the Ducks before striking at the end of the second quarter. Freshman Ben Schaeffer found the back of the net with 1:44 to go in the half for his first collegiate marker.

Swarthmore's momentum carried over into the start of the third quarter, when, 20 seconds in, Austin Chang posted a goal. Chang led the Garnet in scoring last season with 31 goals. The senior needs 10 more for 100 in his career.

After Stevens picked up a pair of scores, Chang located fellow senior Jake Ross for the goal with 5:11 to go in the third.

Ross found another senior for Swarthmore's final goal of the contest. He set up Nathaniel Johns for the tally with two minutes and change remaining in the game.

Stevens was a force to be reckoned with on the faceoff x; the Ducks snagged 13 of the 15 faceoffs in the game. The hosts rattled off 44 shots, 29 on goal. Junior goalie Frankie Dillon did all he could to stop the Ducks' onslaught and registered a career-high 20 saves.

Swarthmore went 23-for-27 on the clear, and both teams were unsuccessful in converting a man-up opportunity.

The Garnet are back in action on Saturday at nearby Widener University in a 1 p.m. game.
