No. 20 Women's Soccer Shuts Out Bears

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 20 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer overwhelmed the Ursinus College Bears on Thursday night, out-shooting the Bears 17-2 in a 2-0 win.

Marin McCoy netted her seventh goal of the year and the 50th of her career. Brittany Weiderhold scored on a laser of a shot for her third tally of the year.

Swarthmore's midfield and defense were suffocating on Thursday, keeping the Bears far from goal for most of the contest.

The Garnet got on the board in the 16th minute with McCoy's close-range goal. Caroline Coats served in a pass from the right wing that was flicked ahead in the box by Sydney Covitz. McCoy gathered the ball and punched in the point-blank shot, slipping the shot through the legs of the goalkeeper.

Lizzie King nearly scored in the 24th minute, but her hard-struck shot connected with the far post and caromed out.

Swarthmore found its second goal at the end of the 41st minute. Bellara Huang made a pass from the right wing that was tapped over to Weiderhold by Megan Ruoff. Weiderhold spun around after receiving the ball on the left side about 25 yards from goal and cranked a shot that Ursinus' goalkeeper got a hand on. The shot had too much pace on it and went right into the goal.

Swarthmore improved to 6-0-1 on the year. Centennial Conference play continues on Saturday at 4 p.m. against McDaniel at home.
