Match Highlights
- A rapid pace was set early with 74 points scored in the opening two matches, both won by Messiah via technical falls.
- Thompson fell behind early against Daugherty at 141 as the Falcon grappler took the Gettysburg junior to the mat twice in the first period. Thompson cut the deficit in half with an escape in the second and tied the score with a takedown in the third. He maintained the momentum by turning his advantage on top into four back points and clinched the riding time point for a 9-4 win.
- Mougalian and Coniglio turned in the match of the night with a back-and-forth battle that went right down to the final buzzer. The two wrestlers were tied 4-4 after the first period and Mougalian took a slim 7-6 lead with an escape and takedown in the second. An escape by Mougalian to start the third period was quickly answered by a takedown by Coniglio. The pair exchanged reversals to maintain the deadlock, but an escape by the Gettysburg first-year with about 10 seconds left put him ahead 11-10. Mougalian already had the riding time point sewed up, forcing Coniglio to go after a last-second takedown, which came after the clock ran down to zero.
- Junior Michael Carioscia (Pawling, N.Y./Canterbury School) scored three takedowns and an escape to jump in front of Kevin Diehl 7-5 after one period at 174. Diehl came back in the second to out-score the Gettysburg wrestler 8-1 on the way to a 15-12 decision.
- Freshman Paul Pelham (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) pulled within a point at 4-3 against Carter Urich following an escape in the heavyweight bout, but the Falcon grappler clinched the decision with a takedown with under 20 seconds remaining.
