LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall College earned the top spot in the final three events to slip by Gettysburg College 133-129 in a Centennial Conference men's swimming dual Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (7-2, 4-2 CC) led 110-97 following a 1-2 finish by sophomore
Duncan Proxmire (McLean, Va./Langley) and junior
Josh Parker (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) in the 500 freestyle. Franklin & Marshall (8-4, 4-2 CC) touched the wall first in the 100 fly and 200 IM before clinching the team decision with a win in the 400 free relay.
Proxmire turned in another dominating display in the distant events, pulling off the distance-double sweep (500-1000) for the fifth time this year. He won the 1,000 by 28 seconds with a time of 9:51.80, while earning the top spot in the 500 by 11 seconds at 4:46.50. Parker was runner-up in both swims in 10:19.90 and 4:57.49, respectively.
Sophomore
Danny Petrillo (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) claimed his second win of the season in the 200 free, beating out F&M's Brendan Cline by less than a second with a mark of 1:45.77. The Gettysburg sophomore added a runner-up showing in the 200 breaststroke at 2:16.42.
Freshman
Oliver Pickering (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) pulled away from teammate
Jack Edelson (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Senior) for his sixth victory of the season in the 200 fly at 1:56.19. Edelson finished in 1:57.72 and placed second in the 100-yard fly in 51.98.
Freshman
Sam Nonemaker (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) was edged out by Chris Schiavone in the 50 free despite a season-best time of 21.25. Schiavone, who owns the conference's top times in the 50 and 100 freestyle races this season, won the 100-yard race with the Gettysburg first-year taking second in 47.99.
Junior
Adam Dias (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) came in second in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.07) and also placed third in the 200-yard race (2:16.92).
Gettysburg hosts the CC Championship at the Bullets Pool on Feb. 21-24.
