• The Short Story: In a game which came down to the final minutes of action, the Johns Hopkins women's basketball came away with a thrilling victory over Haverford, 61-58 on Wednesday night in Goldfarb Gym.
How it Happened
• The two teams got off to a quick start in the game's first 10 minutes as Hopkins pulled out to an early five-point lead. A 6-2 Fords run tied the game at seven but an 8-0 run by the Blue Jays, sparked by a
Lillian Scott three, put Hopkins up 15-7. A three from
Lexie Scholtz put Johns Hopkins up by nine at 21-12, but a Julianna Clark layup with 14 seconds left cut the JHU lead to 21-14 after 10 minutes of play.
• Haverford went on a 6-0 run to cut the JHU lead down to two at 24-22, but a Scholtz jumper sparked a 9-0 Blue Jay run to end the half with JHU leading 33-22.
• Scott scored the first five points of the third quarter to give Johns Hopkins a 38-22 advantage and her free throw at 6:11 gave the Blue Jays their largest lead of the game at 43-25. The last two minutes of the quarter saw the Fords outscore Hopkins 6-0, including a last-second three by Anna-Sophia Capizzi to cut the JHU lead down to nine, 45-36.
• A three from
Madison McGrath helped start an 8-2 Blue Jay run in the fourth to make the score 53-38. Trailing by 13 with 4:48 remaining, Haverford began a frantic comeback as the Fords went on a 15-4 run capped by a jumper from Clark with 22 seconds remaining to make it a two-point game at 60-58. A Scott free throw made the score 61-58, however, the senior missed her second attempt and Clark corralled the defensive rebound to give Haverford a chance to tie the game, but both three-point attempts by the Fords fell short and Hopkins claimed the 61-58 win.
