Etown Knocks Off Johns Hopkins, 33-16, in Battle of the Blue Jays

JHU Slips to 5-7 With Non-Conference Loss

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – Host Elizabethtown built an 18-point lead midway through the match and held off a late rally by Johns Hopkins with wins by forfeit in the final two bouts to claim a 33-16 victory in non-conference wrestling action Saturday evening.  Etown improves to 1-2 in the year, while Hopkins slips to 5-7.

In the annual Battle of the Blue Jays, Hopkins jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as freshman Brent Lorin scored the final nine points to turn a 3-1 second period deficit into a 10-3 win over Austin Jones at 125.

Etown won the next four bouts and scored bonus points in each to turn the early three-point deficit into the 21-3 lead.  Zach Rupp (133) and Josh Paisley (149) fueled the 21-point run with wins by fall and EC added a technical fall at 141 and a major decision at 157 during the spree.

Johns Hopkins won the last three contested bouts as junior Dominick Reyes (165) used six takedowns to fuel an 18-5 win that was followed by sophomore Joe Paul's first-period pin against Hunter Beaudet.  Senior Nathan Wertheimer added an 8-1 win at 184, but Etown won the last two bouts by forfeit to halt the rally and claim the victory.
