Men's Tennis Charges into CC Tourney with 8-1 Win over Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The No. 28 Haverford Men's Tennis team (13-5, 7-1 CC) charged into the CC tournament with a decisive victory over Gettysburg (8-9, 1-7 CC) on Saturday afternoon at the Bullets Tennis Courts in the regular season finale for both teams.

James McKenzie and Max Beckwith teamed up for a doubles win to begin things at the third doubles flight, dispatching Zach Lachance and Max Levy by an 8-2 final. The second pairing of Patrick Kley and Adam Chow was also victorious, beating Michael Fellman and Matt Rau by an 8-1 final. Jason Edmonds and Justin Minerva stepped into the top flight, and were dispatched by an 8-5 final to hand a tally to the Bullets as Haverford still held a 2-1 lead entering the singles portion of the afternoon with plenty of breathing room.

The first singles match to finish saw senior Jackson Trevor make quick work of Levy, surrendering just one game in a decisive 6-0, 6-1 triumph. Chow then allowed just one game in his 6-0, 6-1 win over Lachance, and McKenzie just three games in his win over Alec Shalk (6-0, 6-3).

McKenzie put the Fords over the top with the fifth victory of the afternoon. At three singles, it was Danny Loder surrendering just two games to Michael Zayneh (6-1, 6-1) before Jiang was able to get past Alex Kagan (6-3, 6-4). The final match to finish featured Andreas Wingert dispatching Michael Fellman (6-1, 6-4).

Haverford has won seven consecutive matches overall, a streak dating back to April 9. The Fords improve to 44-4 all-time against Gettysburg and have not lost to the Bullets since 1998.

With the victory against Gettysburg, the Fords will take the third seed into the CC tournament semifinals on Saturday, May 7 and will match up with second-seeded Swarthmore in that semifinal. The Fords now await the details of that postseason journey, with information on time and location still to be finalized.
