SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore College Field Hockey improved to 2-1 on Wednesday night with a 1-0 shutout of Susquehanna University at Clothier Field.
A trio of Garnet players connected for the game's only goal in the 45th minute. Senior midfielder
Riya Garg crossed a pass toward the goal from just beyond the right side of the circle, senior forward
Kathleen Carmichael was there to pop it up toward the cage, and sophomore forward
Ali Baratta batted the ball in for a goal.
Swarthmore was outshot 23-9 by Susquehanna (1-2) in the contest, perhaps highlighting the impressive performance by Garnet senior goalie
Zelda Bank. Bank recorded 15 saves in her second shutout of the season. That's the most saves Bank has ever recorded in a shutout in her career. Her previous high was 10 against Stockton University on Sept. 6 of last season.
The River Hawks also had nine penalty corners and the Garnet had two.
Swarthmore will now hit the road for three straight away games starting with Immaculata University at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
