ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. - McDaniel College men's golf freshman
Ethan Crabb posted his first career top-10 finish as the Green Terror finished fifth in the McDaniel Spring Invite at The Bridges Golf Club on Sunday.
The Green Terror totaled a 309, finishing one stroke behind Allegheny. Four of the top five teams were from the Centennial Conference with Gettysburg and Dickinson tying for first with a 299 while Franklin & Marshall came in third with a 304.
Gettysburg won on the third tiebreaker which was the team score on the hardest hole on the course. After both teams had the same team score on the ninth and 10th holes, the Bullets were one-under par on the par-5, 558-yard eighth while the Red Devils were one-over par.
Crabb finished in a six-way tie for ninth with a four-over par 76 which included nine pars, two birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 534-yard 15th. He posted his third-best round this season after carding a 70 in the first round of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic on Oct. 1, 2022 and a 75 in the opening round of the Royal Lakes Invitational on Oct. 10, 2022.
Sophomores
Dell Grieser and
Hogan Schutze finished one stroke behind Crabb as each turned in a five-over par 77. Grieser totaled 11 pars and one birdie while Schutze had 10 pars and two birdies.
Junior
Joe Graceffa finished in a tie for 21st with a six-over 78 as he carded 11 pars and one birdie. He was just three strokes off his season-low 75 set in the first round of the Kinder-Williams Invitational on Sept. 19, 2022.
The team leader with a 72.5 scoring average this season, senior
Ryan McGarry placed 27th with a seven-over par 79 which included an eagle on the par-5, 476-yard fifth. He also had nine pars.
Highlighted by 10 pars, junior
Ryan Niederpruem shot a season-low 81 to finish nine-over par.
McDaniel returns to action next Sunday, April 2 in the Hershey Cup hosted by the University of Rochester on the Hershey Country Club East Course. The two-day event begins at 9 a.m.
