Women’s Golf Caps NCAAs on High Note

Bullets card lowest round total on day three.

HOUSTON, Texas.  – The Gettysburg College women's golf team polished another outstanding season by closing out the third round of competition at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship held at the Bay Oaks Country Club on Thursday.
 
The Bullets chopped an outstanding 21 strokes off its previous score on the third day to post a 338, the lowest round tally by the team this week at NCAAs, to finish 21st overall with a three-day total of 1052 (355-359-338). Only the top 15 teams will compete in the final round of the NCAA Championship scheduled for Friday.
 
After placing in a tie for 83rd at last year's NCAAs, junior Hannah Fireman (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) concluded her third-straight trip to the national stage with her best showing yet, placing 66th overall. Fireman tallied a total of eight pars and ended her junior campaign with a birdie on the par-4, 355-yard No.17 hole on Thursday to accumulate a three-day combined score of 245 (84-77-84).
 
Junior Skylar Frankiewicz (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) finished in a tie for 92nd in her third trip to the NCAAs. Frankiewicz notched 11 pars and a birdie on the par-5, 460-yard No.16 hole and concluded with a three-day total of 258 (87-87-84).
 
Junior Katie McCarthy (Westlake, Ohio/Hathaway Brown School), senior Gillian Marini (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), and freshman Cameron D'Amica (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) put in the work on day three as they each sliced 12 or more strokes off from their second round score.
 
McCarthy posted a pair of birdies on the third day of competition, one on par-4, 360-yard No.1 hole and the second on the par-5, 465-yard No. 11 hole. In her second national appearance, she finished with a total score of 270 (89-97-84) to place in a tie for 107th.
 
Marini closed out her career in the Orange and Blue on a strong note, knocking off 12 strokes from the previous day to finish with a personal national low of 87. She ended her second-straight national appearance with a three-day combined score of 281 (95-99-87) to place 115th.
 
D'Amica had her best performance of her national debut on day three, carding her lowest round score of 86 and posting a pair of birdies. She collected both birdies on the back nine, her first of the championship came on the par-4, 320-yard No. 15 hole and her second on the par-4, 355-yard No. 18 hole. D'Amica placed 119th with a three-day total of 287 (103-98-86).
 
Gettysburg wrapped up another successful campaign this season. The Bullets competed in the NCAA Championship for the sixth consecutive season after winning its ninth-straight Centennial Conference title. The Orange and Blue won a total of four events with Fireman, Frankiewicz, and Marini each capturing an individual title this season. Frankiewicz and Fireman led the way for the Bullets this spring as they ranked 1-2 in scoring average, finished among the top five in each spring event, and tabbed all-conference honors for the third-straight year.
