SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore College Women's Basketball dropped a mid-week contest as they battled Widener University on Wednesday night at Tarble Pavilion.
The Garnet fell to the Pride 64-53.
Kendall Tribus opened the scoring for Swarthmore as she took two technical free-throws prior to tip-off. Widener was charged a team technical foul for a uniform violation.
Shortly into the first quarter, the Pride held a slight advantage over Swarthmore as Mackenzie Maccracken put home a lay in from Devan Rimmer. Freshman
Dana Bandurick quickly answered for a Garnet lead with a little over eight minutes remaining.
Bandurick closed out the first quarter with a layup to keep the Garnet within one point of Widener. Entering the fourth frame, Swarthmore trailed by ten points. The Garnet were able to get within three as they scored nine consecutive points. Bandurick added another crucial steal and was able to take the ball down the court for two.
Bandurick led Swarthmore with 19 points on nine of 12 shooting from the field. The guard added eight boards, three steals and two assist in the non-conference tilt. Tribus finished the game with 16 points, six rebounds, two blocks and one steal.
Swarthmore held the Pride (4-0) to 44.6% shooting from the field. The Garnet netted 36 points in the paint and earned 11 points off of Widener's 21 turnovers.
Elizabeth Stiles contributed with nine points, two assist and one steal, while
Christina Holmgren added three steals, three boards, two points and two blocks.
The Garnet (1-2) will open up Centennial action on Saturday as they host Gettysburg at 8:00 p.m.
