Mia Mulin scored two goals to lift the Muhlenberg women's soccer team over Alfred 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the ECAC championships.
Muhlenberg will play its semifinal round against Springfield at McDaniel on Saturday, November 23, at 2:00.
Mulin's first goal came early when the Mules received a corner kick two minutes in. Freshman
Alexandra Chirinkin took the corner, and there was a scramble in front of the Saxon goal that led to Mulin's goal.
In the 67th minute, Muhlenberg (10-6-2) had an advantage in their offensive end. Senior
Alyssa Rose's pass beat Alfred's goalie playing high and allowed Mulin to finish low and left for the goal.
Alfred (8-7-5) responded to the second goal with more urgency, and the tempo of the game increased. The Saxons were able to score following a corner kick off of a header in the 76th minute. They had a great chance to score minutes later off of another free-kick, but senior goalkeeper
Libby Juliano saved the shot. Juliano had five saves in the Mules' win.
The win gave the Mules double digits in victories for the first time since 2014 and two postseason wins in the same year for the first time since 2003. They are 6-1-1 all-time in ECAC games.
