LAKELAND, Fla. – Ursinus College men's tennis kicked off its annual spring pilgrimage to central Florida with an 8-1 victory over St. Ambrose.

The Bears were dominant in running their overall record to 3-1 and remaining unbeaten in non-conference play. Aside from third doubles – where Kyle Bookman and Noah Mandel edged out an 8-5 decision – and fourth singles, a third-set super breaker that went the way of the Fighting Bees, Ursinus conceded just six games across the other seven courts.

Connor DeFaber-Schumacher and Simbarashe Kanjanda shut out their No. 2 doubles foes, 8-0, and Mason Groff and Matt Fontanese dropped a single game at No. 1.

Fontanese (No. 2) and Mandel (No. 6) won by 6-0, 6-0 score lines on the singles court, while Groff (No. 1) and DeFaber-Schumacher (No. 3) surrendered one game apiece in matching 6-1, 6-0 routs.

Kanjanda was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 5. Bookman won the first set at No. 4, but Gonzalo Pereira came back to take the second and then picked up a 10-5 victory in the third-set breaker.

The Bears play twice on Tuesday, beginning with a morning match against DeSales before taking on Northwestern (Minn.) under the lights.
